What is Fair Trade?

Fair trade is a different approach to business that seeks to create greater equity in the international trading system.

Fair trade supports artisans and farmers in developing countries who are socially and economically marginalized. People who are marginalized often face steep hurdles in finding markets and customers for their products.  Fair Trade bridges the gap for people in giving them a platform to sell their goods, at a fair price, with good working conditions so that they can earn a living to care for themselves and their families.  Fair Trade also promotes environmental consciousness so that we are caring for the world around us.

Fair Trade is Not Charity.  It is a business model that encourages those who have been marginalized towards self-sufficiency.  It values hard work and dedication.  It is not a hand-out, rather, it is a way for us to be connected in the world...To reach out our hands to one another in supporting the hard work and talents of one another.

You can use your purchases to speak powerfully into the life of someone else.

When you buy fair trade, you are connecting your life with specific people from around the world.  You are saying that the person whose hands created the piece matters, that their work is worth a fair wage. Every one of your purchases makes a huge impact in the life of another.

Make everyday decisions that impact the lives of others.
